A study on the Cytotoxicity of Adriamycin on Cultured Mouse Fibroblasts

Abstract

|
Present study was carried out to investigate the cytotoxicity of adriamycin, an anticancer drug on cultured mouse fibroblasts in media containing adriamycin at NR-50 and MTT-50 values. The colorimetric assays of neutral red (NR) and tetrazolium MIT, in addition for the studies of micronuclei and sister chromatid exchange (SCE) were performed on the fibroblasts cultured in the media containing adriamycin.
NR-50 and MTT-50 values of adriamycin were 1.2 11g/m2 and 0.8 pg/m2 respectively, which were estimated to be severely cytotoxic to the cell.
The frequencies of micronuclei and SCEs in the adriamycin treated cells were very high at NR-50 and MTT-50 values.
These results indicate that adriamycin have highly mutagenic and severe cytotoxicity on cultured mouse fibroblasts.
